Synopsis
Following the startling cliffhanger to Season 1, Jane and Rafael must now deal with the kidnapping of their son and the repercussions it has in their lives. Additionally, both have to adjust to their new roles as parents.
Meanwhile, Rogelio and Xiomara get to explore the new status of their relationship, while Alba will focus on moving forward from the status quo of her 'illegal' status. And Jane, courted by both Rafael and Michael, will have to decide where her heart truly lies.[1][2]
In the second-season opener, Jane learns of Mateo's kidnapping and Sin Rostro demands a ransom. Meanwhile, Rafael feels isolated when Jane seeks parenting advice from Xo and Alba; and Petra is unsure about what to do with Rafael's last sperm sample.
Jane bonds with Mateo, but encounters tension with Rafael and Michael. Meanwhile, Xo and Rogelio perform on a cruise ship to avoid a lawsuit; Petra and Rafael grow suspicious of Lachlan; and Alba makes a huge decision.
Jane and Rafael try to plan Mateo's baptism. Meanwhile, Petra's news still has Rafael bewildered; Jane must make a tough decision about attending a graduate program; Xo helps Rogelio face his past; and Rogelio gives Michael advice about Jane.
Rafael shocks Jane when he asks for joint custody. Meanwhile, Jane forgets to plan Lina's birthday because she's struggling to balance everything in her life; Rogelio's ex-wife blackmails him in order to get a role; and Michael is assigned a new partner.
Xo's past hurts Alba, who's preparing to become a citizen. Meanwhile, Rogelio wants to confront his adversary, Britney Spears, who's staying at the Marbella Hotel; Michael's feud with Rafael lands him in hot water at work; and Milos makes Petra a tempting offer.
Jane faces an unsympathetic professor as she begins graduate school. Meanwhile, Jane fears Mateo will become spoiled after she works on his estate planning with Rafael; Rogelio attempts to create his own show; and Petra seeks guidance from Jane.
Babysitters are interviewed by Jane and Rafael, but Jane's high expectations are hard to meet. Meanwhile, Rogelio comes to a crossroads in his life; Jane searches for a writing adviser at a Christmas party; and Petra's plan to befriend Jane backfires.
Mateo celebrates Christmas for the first time, but his parents are at odds concerning the holiday. Meanwhile, Jane encounters a problem with her scholarship; Rogelio distrusts his new intern; and Michael has a theory about Luisa's mother.
Jane starts a new job as a teaching assistant in a class full of athletes. Meanwhile, Rogelio's mother visits him and shares a long-held secret; Jane struggles with sleep training Mateo; Petra confesses all to Rafael; and Michael makes some discoveries.
Jane's thesis work gets lost when Mateo has a mishap with her computer, but this setback allows her to meet charming computer guru Dax. Elsewhere, Rogelio hires his mother as his manager; and Rafael divulges important into about Mutter to Michael.
Rogelio plans to propose to Xo, but Mateo swallows the ring he was going to use. Meanwhile, Jane dreams about Prof. Chavez, leading her to wonder how she truly feels about him; and Michael has a realization regarding Rose and Mutter.
Jane seeks advice from Xo as she considers taking her relationship with Jonathan to the next level. Meanwhile, Luisa gets into a car accident; Jane throws a baby shower for Petra as a favor to Rafael; and Michael has something to share with Jane.
Jane plays peacemaker with Michael and Rafael, but their interaction is far from harmonious. Meanwhile, Rafael neglects a pregnant Petra; Xo and Rogelio behave like a couple, despite being broken up; and Rogelio hires a seemingly perfect new assistant.

Petra returns to work and appears aloof about motherhood. Meanwhile, Xo reaches out to an old beau of Alba's, but this displeases Alba because she believes the man is cursed; and Jane worries when she can't contact Rogelio, who's been kidnapped by Lola.
A flood hits Jane's home, disrupting her wedding plans with Michael. Meanwhile, Jane and her dad clash over how big a wedding she should have; Rafael objects to Jane moving 45 minutes away with Mateo; and Petra continues to struggle with motherhood.
Jane's bachelorette party doesn't go as she envisioned thanks to input from Xo and Lina. Meanwhile, Rogelio's plans for Michael's bachelor party disrupt Michael's evening with his friends; and Rafael attempts to unearth Derek's true motives.
Jane and Xo face the outcome of the bachelorette party. Meanwhile, Michael babysits Mateo; Rafael grows upset when he witnesses Mateo do something for the first time; Rogelio lands in hot water at work; and a troublemaker is after Petra.
Jane works extra shifts to make more money, but she misses Mateo. Meanwhile, Jane and Rafael hire a mediator to help them with custody arrangements; Xo gets cast on Rogelio's telenovela; and a newspaper runs a story on Michael's link to Sin Rostro.
Petra hosts a brunch for Mother's Day, altering the Villanueva ladies' usual holiday tradition. Meanwhile, Jane's TA position becomes endangered; Rogelio feels left out of Dina's birthday celebration; and Rafael's half brother lands him in hot water.
Jane plans a big party for Mateo's first birthday, but she gets bad news about her wedding venue. Meanwhile, Michael thinks that Derek and Mutter are secret cohorts; and Jane second guesses her writing skills just as Alba gets a lead on a book publisher.
In the second-season finale, Jane's wedding plans become chaotic after the date is moved up. Meanwhile, Jane's displeased with her thesis; Rafael is torn about his feelings for Jane; Anezka's rushed to the hospital; and Xo receives unexpected news.
