And so, for the first time in her life, Jane threw caution to the wind
— The Narrator

Chapter Seven is the 7th episode of Season 1 of Jane the Virgin.

Synopsis[]

TAKING RISKS – Jane (Gina Rodriguez) decides the best thing for her is to stay away from Rafael (Justin Baldoni), but when her friends insist on taking her to the hot new club that he owns, she finds it hard to avoid him. Elsewhere, Xo (Andrea Navedo) and Rogelio (Jaime Camil) each have dinner plans, so Rogelio suggests they have a double date, but the evening doesn't work out as planned. Meanwhile, Petra (Yael Grobglas) is once again scheming to make Rafael's life more difficult.

Recap[]

SPOILERS AHEAD
The episode begins with the flashback to when Jane and Rafael first kissed. This time we see Jane telling her mother about their magical kiss and how they talked in the restaurant. Xo, however, is not impressed with Rafael calling him a playboy. Three days later he still hadn't called and Jane made sure to avoid guys like that.

Back to the present, we see Jane and Rafael kissing underneath the tree- with an upset looking Xiomara interrupting them. She regrets the kiss (and how soon it was after her breakup with Michael) but feels like she was meant to be with him "or something". Xo, still suspicious of Rafael, warns Jane that they are having a baby, that he used to be a playboy, they are from different worlds, still married and that Petra is crazy. Jane agrees.

Later, Rafael calls Jane and shows up at her front door. They talk about their kiss and how Rafael wants to take Jane on a proper first date. He also really wants to kiss her again- but Jane remembers her mother's warnings and says she needs time. Jane mentions going to dinner with her parents but Xo backs out saying that Rogelio is "too dramatic".

Next, we see Petra trying to take Ivan Rogachevsky's mask off but she ends up sticking him back into the closet. They discuss paying Ivan's $250,000.

Later Jane is at school when she meets the Flannigans, a couple wanting to have a baby. Mrs. Flannigan hugs Jane for luck and as she walks away it is revealed Sister Margaret set the whole thing up to encourage their fertility. Our Lady of Sorrows has made up coins with a pregnant Jane on them to encourage more to their flock. At dinner, Jane tells the story to her father and he suggests it's because they are fans of his. Jane also tells him Xo's comment earlier that he was being dramatic, which he does not take well.

At the Villanueva house, Xo's Dance Class is in full swing. Afterward, one of her students, Eva, introduces Xo to her father Marco Esquivel. He asks her out on a date but Xo refuses.

Michael left his watch at Jane's house and she returns his watch. Michael is confused and upset about their relationship status and he asks if it's about Rafael. She says no and goes to work. When talking with her friends it is revealed that Frankie's birthday is today and they need Jane's help to get them into Viento on opening night (by asking Rafael). He agrees but tells Jane he will also be attending- together. Not a date. Seriously.

Jane and Xo talk about their plans for the evening and Xo hints that even being around Rafael is not a good idea. Jane changes the subject to Rogelio and how he said that she was being dramatic. Xo later goes to pick up her check from The Marbella and somehow she and Rogelio end up planning a double date but not really (they're just being dramatic).

Petra goes to see Lachlan, desperate for money, while Magda considers killing Ivan.

Jane gets flowers that she assumes are from Michael since he is standing right there, but they are in fact from Rafael who promises to kiss her again tonight. Jane, sad that Michael is upset, goes to Rafael and tells him that it is too soon. Raf confesses that Michael has been a jerk and Jane admits that they have something. Jane says they can't do whatever they want.

Back at school- another couple, Nora and Ben, want Jane's help getting pregnant unbeknownst to Jane. She assumes they are Rogelio's fans but then The Jane the Virgin Coins come into light where she confronts Sister Margaret.

At the station, Michael talks with Nadine about the Sin Rostro case and she gets annoyed with his bad mood. Frankie's Birthday Party begins at Viento where Jane worries about her "Jane the Virgin" reputation at school.

Xo and Rogelio's worst double date ever is as hilarious and awkward as one would imagine. She brings Marco as her date and Rogelio brings...unknown woman. Marco admits he was a professional soccer player, which impresses Rogelio's date. Rogelio gets too drunk to drive home, so Xo takes him back to the Villanueva house

Back at Viento, Frankie, Lina, and Luca are having a great time, while Jane is miserable. She sees a girl doing body shots off Rafael's neck and avoids the awkward tension by getting her drunk friends to dance with her. Later Raf and Jane talk about all the reasons Xo warned her against and Rafael pleads for them to be together before the baby. Jane decides to go with Rafael- to Target.

Later they head back to the hotel and eat their snacks in front of the fire. Getting to know each other with an epic, romantic talk. They talk about fears, they talk about least favorite foods, the fact that Jane can rap. They talk so much they fall asleep, Jane tucked neatly against Rafael's side.

The next morning Petra has earned her hostage's trust while Magda doubts the plan. Meanwhile, Xo panics when she can't find Jane. Rogelio offers to help by tweeting his followers. Xo calls Michael to see if Jane is with him and twists the knife in Michael's gut, even more, when he admits that she was going to see Rafael.

Jane wakes up also panicked. She is going to be late for work and she has to wear her partying heels. Raf gives her a ride to school while calls her mother, charging her phone in his car. Sister Margaret catches her coming in late and bribes her with giving some hugs.

Even more desperate than before, Petra seduces Lachlan. She tells him that she knows how to take Rafael down and that he can record it to blackmail her. He, unfortunately, does not have access to the money she needs. Down in the lobby, Rafael runs into Jane's father where he does not want to hear his excuses about Jane not coming home. Rogelio reminds him that Jane is special and threatens him before walking away.

At home, Jane has an argument with her parents about Rafael. She tells them she wants to take a risk on Rafael and follow her heart. Marco shows up at the house and Rogelio does his best to make his presence known.

Michael and Nadine argue about the case and then the two of them have sex on the table.

Jane was ready for another romantic night but Rafael gets held up by his father- he's fired because of whatever Petra told Lachlan and he has to go to Mexico City.
