Chapter Ninety-One is the 10th episode of Season 5 of Jane the Virgin.


BALANCING ACT – When Rogelio (Jaime Camil) tells Jane (Gina Rodriguez) that the network wants her to write the script for their telenovela, at first she is excited, but begins to struggle to balance her time between that and her novel. Rafael (Justin Baldoni) is furious with Jane after she makes a medical appointment that he doesn’t agree with behind his back. Meanwhile, Petra (Yael Grobglas) tries to be positive about their relationship when JR (guest star Rosario Dawson) lands a job interview out of state.

  • It is concluded that Mateo has ADHD, based on medical tests that Rafael and Jane had him take.
  • JR reveals that she needs a fresh start, which is why she wants to take the job in Houston.
  • JR and Petra break up, and a heartbroken Petra comes to Jane crying.
    • It is possible that it's the first time since she was a child that Petra has been crying.
  • Jane decides to leave the production of This Is Mars to focus on her novel.
  • Alba and Jorge are on their honeymoon
  • Jane and Rafael fight over Mateo getting tested and it turns out Rafael is scared, which is why he gets so upset about it
  • Jane admits to Raf that she's in the wrong having gone behind his back and he forgives her
  • Professor Donaldson is gay and also happy, as she's in a new relationship with Jill. Jill works in the publishing business and likes Jane's novel.
  • The Narrator says he's got a hard time keeping focus at various points throughout the episode, which could be construed as a clue that Mateo's the Narrator or a clever red herring that fits with an overall theme of the episode.
  • Luisa confronts Rose.


  • While drunk, Luisa signed some papers, which gave her control over Rose's bank accounts.
